Something To Look Forward To
This coming weekend is something to look forward to.
By six in the morning of Saturday, I will be on my way to Subic. It'll be my first (and hopefully, not my only) break for this summer. Subic is located north of Manila. It is within Olongapo City and is under the province of Zambales.
Between 1947 and 1992, Subic used to be a base for the U.S. Navy. It was one of the busiest ports in the Pacific and was also among the US' largest naval bases outside of the US. Subic boasts of a terrific rainforest and of course, spectacular beaches, which made the location conducive for jungle survival and naval training. When the bases were vacated in the early 1990s, Subic was converted to a free port and eventually became a tourist spot.
The last time I went there was about three years ago with friends Charm, Leah, Kendi, Eden, Len and Manuel. We stayed at the very cozy Forest Hills Resort. It was so much fun. We went to the beach. We cooked at home. We had a sumptuous feast. We lounged around. We enjoyed each other's company.
This Saturday, I'll be going to Subic with Hunski and his officemates. I'm looking forward to it since I know most of the people who are going. It's also exciting because it's a great chance for Hunski and me to spend some quality time together. We hardly see each other during the week since we have different schedules and even if we do, we hardly have quality time. What can I say? I miss my guy!
So I can't wait for Saturday to come. Can we skip Friday please?

Sleeping with David Beckham
Uhm, I've already forgotten most of what I have learned about art from my Humanities courses which is why I'm reserving my comments on what I'm about to tell you.
Anyway, Posh Spice's husband and former Manchester United star player, David Beckham, has apparently been making headlines in British tabloids. What's putting him in the headlines is not the rumor that he is sleeping with someone else besides Mrs. Beckham but simply, the fact that he is sleeping.
Sounds weird?
Let me clear it for you. Early this week, a 107-minute film of David Beckham sleeping was unveiled at the National Art Gallery in London. The film, which supposedly gives an intimate portrait of the star player, has been making art afficionados and sports fan as well to head over to the museum just to get a glimpse of Beckham in his sleep. The video portrait was the work of British contemporary artist Sam Taylor Wood.
The portrait features David Beckham sleeping on his right side. He is filmed nude from the chest up and is wearing gold necklaces, a diamond earring, and black and brown braided leather bracelets. His right arm supports his head while the other arm is near his chest.
There have been mixed reactions to this project of Taylor Wood. Some thought it was just another regular video, while others thought of it as a real piece of art.
What about you? What do you think?

One Soldier's Girl
The most popular (and only) hate crime I know is that of Matthew Shepard's, which happened early October of 1998. At that time, I was still a sophomore in college. I was still in the closet. I was still uncomfortable with my sexuality.
But the story of Matthew Shepard was more than enough to serve as an eyeopener to a lot of people - gay or straight and, as an inspiration - primarily to closeted gay men and women. It's just saddening that there is still a huge population of people out there who are still blinded by discrimination and hate.
Yesterday afternoon, together with Hunski, Omar and Mark, we watched a movie that told of another senseless killing that is similar to Matthew Shepard's. The victim this time was a private from the airborne infantry in Kentucky, named Barry Winchell.
Soldier's Girl was the title of the movie.
The movie was based on the heart wrenching story of the life and tragic death of Barry Winchell. His only fault was that his heart beat for Calpernia Addams, an attractive transgendered nightclub performer at one of the local bars in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Unfortunately, the feeling that Barry had for Calpernia was considered as a form of deviance and should, in no way be, tolerated. Blinded by narrow mindedness and hatred, two of Winchell's own "brothers" in the service, Justin Fisher and Calvin Glover, were the ones who put an end to Barry's life.
Lee Pace and Troy Garity played the roles of Calpernia Addams and Barry Winchell, respectively. The movie was directed by Frank Pierson and was produced by Showtime.
If you haven't seen the movie yet, go watch it. Prepare to laugh, to cry and to fall in love.

Grande Caffee Mocca, A Coffee Brownie and a Team Leader
I spent Friday afternoon with my Team Leader and a grande Caffe Mocca and a Coffee Brownie at Starbucks.
Jade, my Team Leader, is a 23 year old lady with the heart of an eighteen year old and the mind of a thirty year old. She's just new to the position but I can say that she will be good at performing the tasks required of the position. She has a degree in Clinical Psychology from one of the state universities in the country. And how she ended up working for a call center rather than in a hospital, I have no idea.
Anyway,I've been kidding her for the past couple of days that she can practice on me whatever it is she learned from her degree because I was badly in need of career counselling. I was half serious and half kidding. In any case, I'm glad she spared some time for me.
After work, I had her sign my application for an internal posting. I was having some hesitations whether I should apply for the position or not but I decided to give it a try. I figured I have nothing to lose.
When we submitted the application, Jade and I headed to Starbucks next door. And we just spent the next two or three hours chatting and getting to know each other.
I told her how I felt about my job. I told her that I might pass a resignation letter when I draw my last straw. I told her about my career plans. I told her why I feel the way I feel about my job. I told her what my thoughts are about how the team can improve. I told her what I thought of the company. I told her that I almost became a priest. I told her that I had my practicum in the country's largest conglomerate. I told her that I used to aim for a Team Lead position but not anymore.
I told her more things.
Jade also shared a lot of things about her life and her work. I must admit that it feels good that she looks up to me, that she appreciates my work and that she believes in me. As a member of the team, these are very important to me.
We separated ways about six in the evening. I felt good that I had a chat with my Team Lead. At least, now she knows what my plans are. Now she knows that if ever I quit from the job, it's not (just) because I don't reallly have an affinity towards the job but because I know that where I want to be is not where I am right now.

And my Inner Gay Man is...
Congrats, you've got a little Rufus in you! Raised on opera and his mother's show-biz sensibility, Rufus is a master songwriter and performer. Though prone to excess and moodiness, his off-kilter sense of humor and fashion and his radiant presence make him a joy to be around. Don't be ashamed; if this still small voice speaks up within you (with a bit of a slur and a lisp), listen up! He could make you a star.
Who's your inner gay man?

Damn Surf Control
So I've been absent from the blog world.
Apparently, someone in the I.T. department is not happy that one of the windows on my task bar is Blogger.
How did I find out?
Well, there I was on my daily task of pulling up the tools and the websites that I need, and that includes Blogger and lo and behold, instead of seeing the usual site homepage, I got a message in bold, red letters - Surf Control Access Denied.
Sigh.

Weekend Report
Friday was spent with my fabulous friends. It was Jigs' birthday and good pals, Suki and Richie, prepared a surprise dinner for our ex-flight attendant-cum-stage actor.
I got off from work a little after three in the afternoon and I reached the apartment a little before five. That gave me some time to rest and refresh with a quick cold bath. (Gawd! Summer season's setting in and you have no idea how humid it is here. Well, unless of course you also reside here in Manila.) Moving on, Hunski fetched me ten minutes before eight and together with friend, Omar, we headed to the dinner party.
The dinner was held at a Korean restaurant along Jupiter St. in Bel-Air Village. The street is known for a string of restaurants and karaoke bars, among other establishments. When we reached the restaurant, it was just Richie and three of Jigs' friends. An hour later, people began arriving and when everyone was there, we all waited for Jigs while we had sumptuous dinner which included personal favorites, Korean beef stew and bulgogi, paired with kimchi, bean sprouts and other side dishes.
Then Richie announced that Jigs was in the restaurant already and so we all piped down and waited for the birthday celebrant to arrive. As soon as Jigs came in the room, we all yelled out "Happy Birthday!". It was great seeing the smile on Jigs' place. He moved around the room kissing everyone on the cheek. My golly, that must be tiring for him. He had to kiss everyone. Hehehe!
Anyway, Jigs took his seat and everyone returned to their chit chat and dinner. The dinner party ended as the clock neared midnight. I left early because I had to go home to my parents' house and I wanted to be home early.
It was a great dinner party though and I had fun! And I wish Jigs had a grand time too. Well, I'm sure he did! Happy Birthday, Jigs!!!
The following day, I had one of the luxuries that I rarely have - waking up late. I got home by one in the morning and that's something that rarely happens as well. When I woke up, the sun was up already and I looked around and my whole family were up already. I reached out for my phone to check the time and it was already nine a.m.
To some, it may be still be early but for me, that's already late. Anyway, I got up, fixed my stuff, spent an hour or two idling around before I prepared to go out. I was meeting Hunski for lunch. We had lunch at Pancake House in Greenbelt.
In the afternoon, we met up with Richard, Omar and Jigs. Afternoon was spent sweating it out playing badminton in one of the many badminton halls in the city. It was really fun and tiring. That was my only workout for the week. My right shoulder has been hurting because of a muscle spasm and that was the reason why I wasn't able to go to the gym at all for the entire week. But the two or three hours I spent playing really made me sweat out. It was also a reason for my body to be aching the following day.
After the badminton game, Omar, Hunski and I had dinner while Jigs went home to his folks for a birthday dinner part. Richard, on the other hand, met up with another group of friends for dinner. Following dinner, I got some sleep while Omar met up with boyfriend, Mark. Hunski went ahead and met up with Richie, Suki, Abi and Chari to join into our latest craze - mah-jong. I joined them a couple of hours later. So did Jigs.
We all left Abi and Chari's home by midnight. Richard picked up Jigs and the two went to Malate for more partying. Suki and Richie, on the other hand, headed home. The couple have not been into the whole Malate party scene lately. And Hunski and me also began our walk home.
It's a good thing Abi and Chari's home was just near Hunski's place. I always enjoy a late night walk around the streets of Salcedo Village. The whole area which is so noisy in the morning because of the hustle and bustle of people just turns into one quiet location.
It was a perfect time to enjoy the silence. It was a perfect time to enjoy the serenity of the moment. It was the perfect time to enjoy the company of Hunski.
It was the perfect ending to the night.
Hehehe!

Twenty Plus
I've always liked answering slambook questions. I think the longest one that I answered had about a hundred plus questions. Hehehe! Talk about non-productive time.
Anyway, got this new questions from this blog. If you have nothing better to do right now, read my replies and then do your own.
Please. Cheers.
1: Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, find line 4. Write down what it says: "...taking eight months off in Brazil."
2: Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What do you touch first? The wall. The one that's going to be torn down next weekend. The wall of the next cubicle.
3: What is the last thing you watched on TV? On TV? Uhm, I don't usually watch TV on weekdays. The last thing I watched was a rerun of an episode of American Idol.
4: WITHOUT LOOKING, guess what the time is: Uhm, I think it's about 12:15 in the afternoon.
5: Now look at the clock; what is the actual time? The time now on my phone is 12:11.
6: With the exception of the computer, what can you hear? I hear the noise of the other agents around me. I hear the comb of my team leader combing through her hair. I hear the voices of my team leader and my other two team mates all at the same time.
7: When did you last step outside? What were you doing? About seven hours ago. I was on my way to work.
8: Before you came to this website, what did you look at? Email!
9: What are you wearing? I'm wearing a checkered shirt from Celio, paired with a pair of khakis from Dockers and my square toed shoes.
10: Did you dream last night? Gawd! I slept for about nine hours last night and I didn't dream for a second, which is actually good because I wanted to sleep without any distractions and that includes dreams.
11: When did you last laugh? Laugh hard? Yesterday, when I asked the customer I was talking to to go to a website. I have no idea why he chose Barbie.com and what made me laugh was I heard Barbie speaking. Hehehe!
12: What is on the walls of the room you are in? Uhm, nothing pretty.
13: Seen anything weird lately? A guy in black shoes paired with white socks. My absolute pet peeve. Hehehe!
14: What do you think of this quiz? It's great! I'm a big fan of quizzes like this. Hehehe!
15: What is the last film you saw? The last film I saw was "The Passion of the Christ". It was absolutely moving.
16: If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy first? I have to think about this really hard. But then again, I didn't win so why would I even think about it hard?
17: Tell me something about you that I don't know. You don't know a lot about me.
18: If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do? If I could change one thing about the world, uh, I wish people were more compassionate about other people.
19: Do you like to dance? With the right music and the right mood, oh yeah!
20: George Bush: is he a power-crazy nutcase or some one who is finally doing something that has needed to be done for years? Don't care.
21: Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her? I'd name her Gisele Mikaela.
22: Imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him? I'd name him Luis Antonio. I want a Spanish/Filipino sounding name
23: Would you ever consider living abroad? Yes, get me out of this country immediately.

13 Volunteers and 1 Girl Friend
I was extremely happy yesterday that we were given the option to voluntarily go home early. I was able to leave the office an hour and a half early. The VGH (voluntary go home) is usually offered on days when the agents available to take in calls are really high. Yesterday, I think we reached an avail of about 120 agents.
Anyway, I was happy not because I could go home early but because I could go to UP Los Baños in Laguna. It was the second day of the Pre-Deployment Training for the volunteers of the Summer Immersion Service Program and it was being held at the Bahay ng Pahinungod in UP Los Baños.
Laguna is a province located south of Manila. Although it may be a province, in general, it is a very progressive one. Each year, we hold the three-day Pre-Deployment Training for the volunteers of the Summer Immersion Service Program in the said University. On the other hand, the Summer Immersion Service Program is a volunteer program I handled in my old work. The program deploys volunteers to various remote communities in the different provinces of the country. I totally love this program and to go to communities that seem to be in the middle of nowhere always bring me a high. I dunno why. Gawd! I don't even want to start. I can get very passionate about this topic.
Anyway, this year, I'm attending the training program as a guest and not as the Coordinator, which is actually good for a change. Aside from that, I also want to go on an out of town trip even for just a couple of hours and even if those couple of hours would entail a very late night for me. Moreover, I also had another agenda for the trip. My very good friend, Thea, is now based in the said University. I haven't seen her for ages and In planned to surprise her by showing up at her office.
I left Manila at about three in the afternoon. I rode with the other Pahinungod staff who would also be attending the activity. It was so good seeing my friends and colleagues from my old office.
When we reached UPLB, I separated from the group and went to Thea's office first. When I saw her approaching the lobby, I stood up and approached to meet her. We gave each other a big hug and it was really good seeing her. She showed me her office and I was impressed because she had her own room and it was huge. There were a lot of newspapers and publications all over the room though. Thea's in charge of the public relations of the organization she's working for. Upon seeing the huge pile of dailies, I teased her by saying that, "If the other 'girls' were here, they'd surely give this office a quick makeover." Haha!
After a quick chit chat, I left her and went to my real destination. I invited her over for dinner though so we still had more time to catch up with each other.
As I set foot on the Bahay ng Pahinungod, the volunteers were still in session. Only the other Pahinungod volunteers were there. Immediately, I began having a lot of things to do. We had to prepare dinner and there was still a lot to be done. I found myself instructing people what to buy and what to do. I also found myself chopping onions, garlic and other veggies that were needed for the menu. I didn't have any more time to rest because of the amount of preparations that needed to be done. I think my colleagues were wishing I wasn't there because I was making their life toxic. Hahahaha! That's me!
Anyway, everything turned out well. Dinner was served on time. I must say it was sumptuous. And I'm not saying that because I was part of the team that cooked. Thea arrived and we got a lot of time to talk to each other and share the latest gossip about people we know. Harharhar!!!
After dinner, there was a short program. The immersion volunteers, four groups in all, prepared various presentations and entertained the audience and themselves. Following the short program was the Ritwal ng Pagtatalaga. It's like a Rite of Passage to becoming a full-pledged Pahinungod. It was a very solemn moment except for the part where the sound system didn't work and the emcee forgot what she needed to say. Hehehe!
I left back for Manila by eleven thirty in the evening. I was too tired and sleepy and although I could have slept on the trip going home, I tried to keep myself awake and chatted with the driver so that he doesn't fall asleep as well. By the time I got home, it was already one in the morning. I just immediately took off my clothes, more like tore my clothes off of me, and changed into sleeping clothes. I only have time for three hours of sleep so every minute counts.
As I lay in bed, I didn't feel that tired. I actually felt good because I had a good Tuesday eventhough it seemed tiring. Hope your Tuesday was just as good...or hopefully, even better.

What Are You?
The Slow Dancer
Deliberate Gentle Love Dreamer (DGLDm)
Steady, reliable, and cradling him tenderly. Take a deep breath, and let it out real easy...you are The Slow Dancer.
Your focus is love, not sex, and for your age, you have average experience. But you're a great, thoughtful guy, and your love life improves every year. There's also a powerful elimination process working in your favor: most Playboy types get stuck raising unwanted kids before you even begin settling down. The men left over will be hot and yours. Your ideal man is someone intimate, intelligent, and very supportive.
While you're not exactly the life of the party, you do thrive in small groups of smart people. Your circle of friends is extra tight and it's HIGHLY likely they're just like you. You appreciate symmetry in relationships.

Changing Plans
I didn't go to work last Friday.
I spent the whole morning sleeping. Hunski and I got up around ten to get some brunch at McDonald's. I was craving for some delicious pancakes at Pancake House but unfortunately, they were closed.
After brunch, Hunski and I would be going home to our own families to spend Good Friday with them. But as you all know, sometimes plans can change in the snap of a finger, or in this case, in the sound of a mobile phone.
While having brunch and watching a rerun of American Idol, Hunski received a text message from Richie. He and Suki were heading over to Chari and Abi's apartment to go swimming and hang out.
And so the plan to go home turned into a plan to go to Chari and Abi's apartment. Chari's apartment was just walking distance from Hunski's apartment so it was easy to get there.
When we got there, our gracious served us homecooked pasta with tuna sauce and turkey hotdogs (yes, turkey hotdogs). When we were done with eating, the plan to go swimming was delayed by another plan - to play mahjong.
Yes, that afternoon, Abi, Richie and Suki taught me, Hunski and Chari how to play the ancient, Chinese tile game. When I say it that way, it makes it look more traditional rather than just another game where you lose money. Hehehe! In this case, the bets were only one peso and we all know how small the value of one peso is.
Anyway, for those not familiar with mah jong, here's some information about the game.
There is a theory that Confucius was the one who invented the game but some people believe this is not true since there is no sufficient evidence that the domino looking tiles have been making shuffling noise on tables before 1880.
Anyway, a set of 144 Mah Jong tiles consists of 36 tiles in the Bamboo suit, 36 in the Circle suit, 36 in the Character suit, 16 Wind tiles, 12 Dragon tiles and 8 bonus tiles (4 Flowers and 4 Seasons).
The objective of the game is to collect sets of tiles according to the number and type shown on the face of each tile. A player will take and discard a tile each turn and the first player whose hand consists entirely of a legal set or sets goes out or goes "Mah Jong".
The game begins with process of shuffling the tiles which, is known as "The twittering of the sparrows", probably because of the accompanying noise. This I guess is where the game got its name since, Mah Jong means "the game of the sparrows". Is this right, Wayne?
Anyway, we played the game til about five in the afternoon. We all moved to the pool area and while Richie and Jigs did some laps, Suki, Abi, Chari, Hunski and I played the game.
We all hung out together until a little before six. Hunski and I went ahead so we can be home early. He took me to my house and then, he headed home. When I got home, My Mom, Dad and two brothers were watching in the living room. I joined them. My Mom asked me if I was hungry and I said yes, and she began to heat the food. Aren't moms the best?
After dinner, I headed upstairs to my room to rest a little. And then, as was the usual case, when I woke up it was already five in the morning. Hahaha!
Oh well, that was really a good Friday.

Rainy Maundy Thursday
Thursday afternoon was spent at Jigs' apartment.
Jigs was able to tape the whole season six of the Sex and the City on his recent trip to the US, and he invited us over to his place to have a Sex and the City marathon.
Hunski picked me up from work at three. We then passed by a grocery to get some fruits - grapes, melon and apples. Yum! Afterwards, we headed to Jigs'. When we got there, Suki, Richie, Frances, and Jigs were there already. They were watching Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. When Queer Eye ended, Suki, Richie and Frances went out for a quick smoke and when they returned, our marathon began.
We finished watching around eleven in the evening. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed and been moved by the last two episodes of the series. After the series, we hung out a little bit more. Jigs took us to the recreational area where there was a pool, a tennis court, a bowling alley and a gym. It had just finished raining that afternoon, so it was a cool evening.
It was a great way of spending the night, since almost all establishments were closed because it's Maundy Thursday. Other people would probably reprimand us for not going to Church or being with our families. I wasn't bothered because my Thursday was already maundy enough from work.
And besides, boys just wanna have fun.
This Week's Friday Five:
1. What do you do for a living?
I am currently working as a Technical Customer Care Representative for Convergys Philippines Services. The project I am assigned to is one of the largest Internet service providers in the US.
2. What do you like most about your job?
Uhm, the work environment is casual. I feel like I'm in a university.
3. What do you like least about your job?
Let's not even begin with this.
4. When you have a bad day at work it's usually because _____...
Bad days are usually caused by consecutive bad calls, complicated problems, customers who can't properly operate a computer, among other things.
5. What other career(s) are you interested in?
I've always wanted to be in Corporate Communications. I know that that is where I want to be.

Not a Good Moment
Infraction
Pronunciation: in-'frak-sh&n
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Medieval Latin infraction-, infractio, from Latin, subduing, from infringere to break
Infraction:
In the context of my work, an infraction is the opposite of a commendation. And no one likes an infraction. Who can give it? We all can. When do we give it? If an agent refuses to takes over a case, if an agent uttered derogatory or racist remarks against you, if an agent deletes all your notes, if an agent returns the case back to your name. An infraction may also be given if an agent didn't do all troubleshooting steps before escalating the case to the next level.
My first infraction was, and I still believe it is, to be invalid and should be disputed by my team leader. I believe that I followed all troubleshooting steps indicated for the case. I looked into all possible procedures that may be used to address the case, prior to escalating the case. It's not my fault that the customer don't know the difference between a red light and an orange light.
The second infraction was valid. I misread the notes of the previous agent. Enough said.
To the two agents who infracted me, I hope the two of you...

Four Men and Four Cups of Coffee
Sunday night found Hunski and me meeting up with coosome twosome, Richie and Suki, at Friday's. After dinner, we headed to the nearby Starbucks 6750 to have some cup of caffeine and coffee brownie for me, please.
And for the next hour or two, we just had a very casual chit chat. One of the topics that we had was our general plans about our careers and the like. Our friend, Jigs, is currently attending classes at Frank Provost. Despite the objections of a father who is a general in the military and a conservative mother, Jigs continued to pursue his passion.
We're proud of Jigs. And this was what set the tone for each one of us to share what we plan to do. There were a lot of ideas that were shared during that coffee get-together. Some seem to be very ambitious, some were too crazy but we all had fun with each other's company.
Anyways...
Richie recently handed his resignation letter to his supervisor. This career move was a suprise to us because we all thought that he was having fun working here. He probably was. I mean who wouldn't? Save for people who don't like children, to be surrounded by kids all day can actually be fun. Anyway, Richie plans to go to school this coming semester and begin pursuing his Master's degree.
Suki, Richie's bunny, is currently working for one of the top celebrity photographers in the country. He's having a grand time working for the guy and he's getting paid a lot too but he's still trying to think of other ways which can provide him with extra income.
Meanwhile, Hunski has finally gotten his wish to be rolled off into a new project. Last Friday was his last day of work with his project for the past five years. Come April 12, he'll be assigned to a new project. He's excited about the project he'll be more excited if the project were abroad. He's been wanting to be sent onshore for the longest time.
I, on the other hand, am in a career that I'm not sure I want to pursue. I know that my heart belongs to the Corporate Communications world and that is where I eventually want to be. There are times though when I dream of being part of a company that stages runway shows. This, however, is hard to do since a.) the obvious, I don't have any formal background in fashion, b.) I'm nowhere near the fashion capitals - Milan, NY, Paris or London, and c.) I have no idea how to break into the local fashion industry. Although Suki thinks I should go into styling since I he knows how much I love fashion. Not as much as this guy does though. Hehe!
Anyway, we wrapped up everything by eleven. Suki had work the following day. I wanted to get as much sleep as possible. Right now, all I can say is this.
We're really getting old, aren't we? Just a couple of years ago, all I worry about is how to tie my shoelace. Now, I have to worry about how I can purchase a Prada bag (among other plans that are way more serious than this one) which entails increasing my income, among many other things.

My Other Guy
This guy has been keeping me busy on the days when Hunski's not around. Why doesn't that sound well? Hehe! In any case, it was Hunski who introduced me to this guy one night. The next thing I know my eyes have been glued on to the television and my fingers on the controller for thirty, forty minutes, sometimes, even an hour.

This Former Colleague
About two years ago, a former colleague called me at my office and said, "I need to talk to you."
I noticed that there was some tone of anxiety in his voice but I casually said, "Okay. What's up?"
He replied, "Uhm, can I go to your office right now? I need to talk to you."
"Alright."
About ten minutes later, he's at the office already. He's just at the next building, that's why he got to my office immediately and not because whatever he was about to tell me was of that importance.
Moving on, he invited me to go walk with him for a little while so he may talk to me. I ask permission from my co-worker to take a break and then I went out of the office with my former colleague. While we were walking, I sensed some uneasiness in him. I was beginning to have an inkling on what the matter was and true enough, my hunch was correct.
My former colleague told me, "You know what, I'm beginning to fall for you."
I remember I stopped walking and faced him. And then I told him that he better direct his feelings towards someoneelse because I was (and still am) happily in love with Hunski. He understood and respected that and he told me that he just needed to let me know how he felt.
After that, I hardly saw the guy because we were working in different offices.
Fast forward to the last week of March 2004.
I visited my University and I bumped into former colleague. He was looking good and he seemed happy. I said hi to him and we chatted a little.
Then he said, "I'm getting married."
"Really, who's the guy?", I replied.
"What makes you think I'm marrying a guy? I'm getting married. Serious."
I thought the guy was kidding so I decided to play along with him. A couple of nights ago, I received a text message from him saying that he was really getting married to a girl. And the equally great news was that he got the girl pregnant.
I sent him a text message congratulating him and asking him how he was. He said that he was excited and nervous.
I dunno if he was telling the truth. Not that it's really my concern. But as a former colleague, I just wish that he thought about this decision and that he is happy.
Since that's all that matters.

Holy Week, Holy Work
It's Holy Week this coming week.
The whole nation - let me correct that - almost the entire nation will be commemmorating Holy Week this coming week. Let me correct that again, some people will be commemmorating and the rest will be heading to the beach and out of town. Being a pre-dominantly Catholic country, the Holy Week has been observed for as long as I can remember.
When I was still a kid, I would be very active in participating in the church activities during the Holy Week, since I used to be an altar boy. The activities from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday are always grand for us, altar boys. But then I grew up and I eventually had to give up being an altar boy. For a time, my friends from the church would and I would meet up during Holy Week each year for a get-together. But then, I got involved with other things and they got involved with others things as well, so that annual get-together rarely pushes through.
Last year, I spent Holy Week out of town in the comforts of a resort and in the comforts of Hunski's hugs. This year, the government has declared Wednesday until Friday to be holidays. For several of my friends and Hunski, it's a grand nine-day vacation starting today.
For me, Holy Week would pass by as if it's just another regular week for me since I'm going to work. Along with the other thousand other people who are presently employed by the burgeoning call center industry in the country, I will have to work during the week that was supposedly a long vacation. Uhm, am I irritated because of this?
Not really. I'm not that bothered by it. But I would be lying if I say that I don't want a vacation as well. I guess vacation's okay but not a long one, especially if I'm just going to stay at home. Surely, I'd find something to keep myself busy. But anyway, since I'm not having any rest, I won't even think of what I could be doing had I not have any work.
What about you guys? What do you plan to do this coming Holy Week? And what about for friends living outside of the Philippines? Is Holy Week observed in your country?
Take care y'all.

Passion for The Passion
Image via Amazon.com
The posters for this movie have been put up a month ago. I've been seeing it in the malls but never really paid much attention to it. I thought it was some kind of play that will be staged locally. I guess I was thinking of Jesus Christ Superstar, which I missed when it was staged here some time ago.
Anyway, it was only a couple of weeks ago that I found out more about this movie. The Passion of the Christ gives us a vivid depiction of the last twelve hours of the life of Jesus Christ.
I've heard rumors about how strong the show was. I heard from the radio that someone actually had a heart attack while watching the scene where Christ was being crucified on the cross. I also heard from other people that majority of the audience were actually crying at the end of the movie.
This just made me more curious about the movie. And now, I'm really looking forward to see it.
I dunno if the audience from other countries are also having the same reaction to the movie. Here in Manila, I'm guessing that people are greatly affected by the movie because a.) we're a dominantly Catholic country, and b.) a lot of Filipinos still have very strong Catholic faith.
I might watch the movie this Saturday. Then, I'll let you know how it goes. And you also tell me how the movie went for you.
