Some Sort of Sign???

As weird as this may sound, I admit that I still go to confession every now and then. Having been raised in a Catholic family, having attended an all-boys Catholic school, having been an altar boy for six years, you can say that the Catholic faith has been deeply inculcated in me. And going to confession is one sacrament that I still observe. I still do go to Mass and I still believe in it. It's just that I haven't found the time to attend it regularly, among other excuses.

Anyway, I decided to go confession yesterday before heading to Starbucks to work on some of school paperwork. The church where I go to confession is the one at the Greenbelt mall in Makati. The church has been there for the longest time that I can remember. The surrounding landscape and the buildings around it have all changed through the years but the church remains the same. One reason I go here for confession is because I'm sure that there is a priest available to adminsiter the sacrament, unlike in other churches where there is a schedule.

So there I was inside the confessional, and while I was confessing, I noticed a small rolled piece of paper by the kneeler. I wasn't really sure what it was and just out of curiosit, I picked it up and put it inside my pocket. After the priest gave his absolution, I stepped out and prayed a lot then headed to Starbucks to study.

After an hour or two of working on my papers, I decided it was time to go home. As I sat at the back part of the bus, I remembered the rolled piece of paper. I took it out of my pocket and then read what was printed on it.

Here's what it said:

"When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures." - James 4:3

As soon as I finished reading it, my first reaction in my head was, "Was God trying to tell me something?" Yeah, I admit I've been asking him to give me a job for the past couple of weeks. Was this his reply to me? I know I mentioned to him that I needed work so I can get that Prada messenger bag or that YSL tote but surely, I told him that those are not the primary reasons I need a job. In fact, they're not even on the second or third reasons of why I need a job.

So in my head, I decided to remind God what my reasons were for needing a job and you know what happened, the minute I finished thinking the reasons, my phone rang and on the other line was a person from a foundation applied to. The person told me that I have an interview today for the position I applied for.

After the call, I took a nap since it was traffic and I still had a long way to go. The incident could appear to be freaky to some but it wasn't for me. I dunno. It was just, uhm, normal for me.

What do you think? Is this some sort of sign?

Men, Men, Men

Cosmo Bachelor Centerfold Mark San Diego

One of the most anticipated activities of Cosmopolitan Magazine Philippines each year is the hunt for the 69 hottest bachelors in the country. In addition to that, the event also includes the search for ten centefold-worthy celebrities who will setthe pages of the Men! Men! Men! issue in September on fire with their hot bodies and even hotter looks.

Culminating the search is the Cosmopolitan Bachelor Bash. It is the one HOT night where the ten centerfolds, joined by many other hot bachelors will come under one roof to raise temperatures that will make hormones in the room go raging wild.

I noticed that each year, the centerfold models get more and more naked. Hahaha! This year, the ten centerfolds were only accesorized by, among others, a bucket of paint, a hand towel, a book, a pile of apples. Wooooh! Wouldn't you want to be that book even for that shoot? Hahaha!

Yesterday, I was lucky enough to attend the rehearsals for the Cosmopolitan Bachelor Bash thanks to a good friend. I couldn't attend the actual event in the evening due to other appointments. But it was okay. I already had an eyecandy fest in the hour or two I stayed at the NBC Tent.

I was supposed to meet my friend at the NBC tent and since I was a bit early (as usual!), I had to wait outside the venue. While waiting, gorgeous men arrived one after the other. Whooooaaa! Hot! Hahaha!

Finally, my friend arrived and we went inside the venue to watch the rehearsals. It was nice. The production was made to tease every female, and I'm sure more than a handful of males, in the house.

I wasn't able to see all ten of the centerfolds. But I was more than contented to see him, him and him.

Yum! Hehehehe!

Move Over Friendster

The newest craze after Friendster is Downelink.

Downelink is a bit similar to Friendster but the former was designed specifically for the GLBT community and their straight friends.

Before I continue, you must be wondering what "Downe" means. Gawd! The gay dictionary is flourishing at a very fast pace that I don't know a lot of terms anymore. (You want proof? I recently found out that in addition to hag (as in fag hag), we now have stags, referring to straight people who enjoy the company of gays and lesbians.

Anyway, according to the site, the word downe has no one definition. It is however synonymous to the word gay. It's also a term that can be used no matter what your age or race is.

Moving on.

More than just the opportunity to find your present friends and establish new friendships, Downelink has more to offer such as social networking, weblogs, internal emails, a bulletin, a forum and very soon, a chat program.

I think that the features of Downelink are much, much better than that of Friendster's.

If you don't believe me, go check it out here and don't forget to add me as your friend.

You're One Ugly Thing

Blog Owner's Note: Before you continue reading, I have to warn you that I don't curse people, that I hate calling people names, that I hate putting people down but sometimes, someone comes along and you just have to stand up for yourself. No more, Mr. Nice Guy.

I am so angry right now.

Have you ever felt turning cold all of a sudden because of the anger building inside of you?
That's how I'm feeling right now.

I started turning cold with anger after this thing started saying things about me.

I should have let this thing finish with what it was saying about me and then surprise this idiot. But after a couple of sentences, I made my presence known.

"I am already here."

And the thing just reacts as if nothing came out of its stupid mouth.

Gawd! I'm so furious right now.

Doing this is so not worth it. I have school. I have a magazine. I would rather look people who are real.

As for you, It. I am angry with you but I'm going to let it pass.

You know why?

Because I'm beautiful and I have a man who loves me and as for you,

You don't have any of these.

The only things you have are a very hiddeous set of clothes and a face that's so @#$%!@#@! no word has been coined yet to describe it.

"YOU'RE ONE UGLY THING!!!"

Lipstick Lesbians

Mel and Lindz from this site.

What is a lipstick lesbian?

Taken from this site...

"The terms "Lipstick Lesbian" and "femme" can be used interchangeably. However, most properly, a "Lipstick Lesbian" is a feminine woman who loves other feminine women, and a "femme" is a feminine woman who loves masculine women. Both types of feminine Lesbians are welcome on this site. And before I get a bunch of irate e-mails, let me say that I'm using the words "masculine" and "feminine" in terms of their traditional meanings."

In short, think Lindsay and Melanie of Queer as Folk.

A friend working for OUT! mentioned that they will be featuring lipstick lesbians for the next episode of the show. Guys, guys, if you know of any lipstick lesbians who are willing to be seen on national television, please please email me.

I just need it badly.

A Fool?

The Fool Card

You are the Fool card. The Fool fearlessly begins the journey into the unknown. To do this, he does not regard the world he knows as firm and fixed. He has a seemingly reckless disregard for obstacles.

In the Ryder-Waite deck, he is seen stepping off a cliff with his gaze on the sky, and a rainbow is there to catch him. In order to explore and expand, one must disregard convention and conformity. Those in the throes of convention look at the unconventional, non-conformist personality and think What a fool. They lack the point of view to understand The Fool's actions.

But The Fool has roots in tradition as one who is closest to the spirit world. In many tribal cultures, those born with strange and unusual character traits were held in awe. Shamans were people who could see visions and go on journeys that we now label hallucinations and schizophrenia. Those with physical differences had experience and knowledge that the average person could not understand.

The Fool is God.

The number of the card is zero, which when drawn is a perfect circle. This circle represents both emptiness and infinity. The Fool is not shackled by mountains and valleys or by his physical body. He does not accept the appearance of cliff and air as being distinct or real.

I'm not really a big fan of tarot cards, but since I don't really have much time to post. This should do for now.

Cheers!

So I haven't been posting...

I have been very preoccupied with a new project which I won't mention for now. It's still an unsure thing so I would rather keep it to myself for now.

This new project is very new to me. I've never had any experience in it which is why I was a bit hesitant to take it. But I did take it to see if I can handle it.

The first week on this project is about to end and I have to say that it is difficult but fun. I learn a lot. I get to meet several people. The only thing I dislike is the unprofessionalism of some colleagues, although in this field, this unprofessionalism I am talking about is considered to be part of the work.

Argh!

Having been involved in this project, I've begun to realize what my priorities are. These are school and the magazine. I've invested so much already in these two things that I can't sacrifice these.

I told Hunski last night that I've decided not to continue with the project but certain incidents today have made me reconsider.

For maybe another week. We'll see.

Penis What???

The Men of Penis Talks

Alert, alert.

Penis Talks, the male version of the Vagina Monologues, will be staged at The Music Museum in GreenHills, San Juan on October 2, 3, 15 and 16. The play is directed by Mr. Joel Lamangan and the script was written by Ricky Lee.

And who will be there?

Filipino hunks Christian Vasquez, Luis Alandy, Paolo Paraiso, Carlo Maceda, Jeffrey Hidalgo, Douglas Robinson, Russel Simon and William Thio will be part of the play. The lucky actor and actresses joining them are Ricci Chan, and Angelu de Leon and Jenine Desiderio, respectivel.

All tickets are pegged at P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000.

It may be pricey but from what I heard, it'll be worth it. At least for about three seconds. Wink wink.

Come Out, Come Out...

Last Saturday was the second episode of Out, the first gay and lesbian oriented television show on the face of the Philippines.

I turned on two televisions at my home in my effort to help the ratings of the show. But alas! It wasn't enough. The show on the other channel airing at the same time as Out featured something more interesting, apparently.

Just to give people an idea of what were featured at last Saturday's episode, here they are:

Wow Gay Malate. Hosts Jigs and Avi toured newbie JM to the different bars in Malate. It was okay. I guess what was missing was more info about the bars - like is there an entrance fee, how much, what do they serve, and other stuff.

Gay Lawyer and Gay Doctor. Jigs flew out of Manila all the way to Cagayan de Oro, a province in Mindanao to interview a gay lawyer and a gay doctor. The feature just aimed to show its audience how homosexuals don't necessarily have to be in a parlor and that they can actually be successful at any field they enter.

Levels of "Outness". The show had a segment that informed people that there are different levels of "outness", so to speak. Yes, clearly, not everyone in the Philippines know that.

Coming Out. Newbie JM, who came out of the closet last week, interviewed and accompanied someone who came out to his parents. It was an okay segment.

On the whole, it was a good show. Many people say that it wasn't as good as the pilot episode but I'm sure that the show is trying very hard to offer several things to its viewers. I just hope the viewers would be supportive of the show.

If you have any idea on what you want to be featured on the show, if you know anyone who wants to come out in a grand style (read: on national tv), if you know any interesting gay or lesbian character who can be an inspiration to both gay, lesbian and straight Filipinos, write me
an email and I'll see what I can do.

The Most Beautiful Thing...

Elphaba and Glinda

Elphaba Defying Gravity

I just finished watching this year's Tony Awards with Hunski.

It was the first time I got to watch the entire show thanks to cable television and what can I say? It was definitely the most beautiful thing.

If one musical can already move me, what more if it was a cocktail platter of different musicals. Awwww!!!!

Believe it or not, the scene performed by the cast of Wicked moved me so much that I got all teary-eyed by the time the song ended. Kristin Chenoweth, and especially Idina Menzel, did such a spectacular performance for "Defying Gravity". No wonder the latter bagged the Best Female Lead Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Elphaba.

Gawd! If I am already moved close to tears by just watching Wicked on TV, and just a scene from it, I don't know what could happen when I actually get to New York and watch my first Broadway play.

Something to look forward to.

Is He or Isn't He???

We are at a time when a certain species of straight men have evolved. These rare species are now open to the idea of wearing designer clothes, seeing a dermatologist, working on their abs, and enjoying the fine things in life like foreign movies and art. Given these, uhm, developments, how can you tell if a man is, borrowing from Sex and the City, a straight gay man or simply, a gay straight man?

This was one of the subjects of discussion last night at Jhenn's birthday party.

One of Jhenn's guests shared that she has a guy friend she's trying to decipher whether he's straight or gay. The guy, who we'll just call Koji, is half-Japanese, half-Filipino born to affluent parents, a Cum Laude graduate of his MBA class, and an only child.

Jhenn's friend recently went on a leisure trip to HongKong and that's where the questioning began. Before I continue, can I just ask why everyone is going to HongKong like it's just next to Manila??? Omar is in HongKong also right now. Argh! I want to go to HongKong too!

Anyway, during that leisure trip to HongKong, Koji spent, prepare yourselves, a whopping P400,000 (about$7,300) on his shopping in just four days. The damage included a Louis Vuitton watch that costs P232,000 (about $4,000), a matching pair of Gucci cap and bag, unidentified purchases from Burberry and Prada, among others. Had it not been for the female friend, Koji would have also bought a bag from the new Dior Rasta collection.

Oh my gawd! Just writing about this is giving me an attack! I'm still waiting for the day when I can somehow go shopping like this. I wouldn't think I'd spend that huge amount of money though, unless I'm a Hilton or a Trump.

Going back to Koji, aside from the shopping addiction, he is also very refined in his actions that it appears to be too genteel for a man. Also, Koji did not have any reaction at all when the two female friends he was staying with at the hotel were talking about their, uhm, forgive me, tits.

While the signs I have told you would probably make you say, "Oh yeah, he's gay.", here are two reasons why the others at the party still argue that he's straight. First, he had a girlfriend. Okay, okay, I know it doesn't follow that having a girlfriend makes one straight. Well, what about this? The guy can play basketball, and not just play but play well. Hehe! If you've lived in the Philippines long enough, you'd understand how basketball has become one of the measures of a man. It's weird, huh?

Anyway, we weren't able to resolve the issue. I told Jhenn's friend that probably the best, if not the only, way to know whether Koji's gay or not is to directly ask him.

And I guess at an age where identifying a Louis Vuitton knockoff from the real one is easier than telling whether the good-looking guy sitting right next to you is gay or straight, the best way to know is to hear things straight from the person's mouth.

If You're Happy and You're Drunk, Clap Your Hands

Birthday Girl Jeng

Not.

That's not what happened last night. I was just smiling the whole time. And on a number of occasions, bursting into bouts of laughter.

Yep, I got drunk again for maybe the third time in my life. I'm really not a drinker so when I finished a glass of vodka tonic and gin tonic that Richard mixed for me, I was already feeling more than tipsy and friends were looking at me because I had a stupid smile plastered on my face.

Haha!

It was Jeng's birthday yesterday.

Hunski and I went over to her house around seven in the evening to have dinner. Yes, we love this girl so much that we missed the finale of this beloved series of ours to celebrate her birthday. When we reached her house, there were already some people. It was a very small but very nice party. Friends Richard and Weng arrived the same time Hunski and I did. Nick, Suki and Richie followed later (and when they arrived, I was already in stupid smile on my face mode). Jeng's friends Alma and Shane were there, along with some more friends.

One thing I always enjoy when I go to Jeng's house is the food she serves. She's such a gracious hostess, always making sure that there's (overflowing) food and drinks for her guests. I keep on wondering how she maintains her slim figure. Add to that that she already has a kid and yet, she's still so sexy. Wow!!!

The whole night was spent with jokes, some relationship counseling, reminiscing of stories and just plain laughter. I think people got a kick out of seeing me somewhat inebriated. They rarely, rarely see me like that. It was fun though.

Birthdays are always fun.

And I hope Jeng had as fun as much as we did, since it was her night. To Jeng, thank you for hosting that wonderful dinner and a very happy birthday. I wish you more GAY years to come.

Cheers, girl! :)

This Week's Pinoy Trivia:

When I went to Palawan during the summer of 1998 for a summer camp, we visited a community located by the side of the Philippine national highway.

If I remember correctly, there was a sign that read "Vietville" as we entered the community. As I too further steps inside the community, I felt being transported from the traditional villages of the Philippines to a small village in Vietnam.

Vietville is a community of several hundred of Vietnamese refugees who began arriving in the country during the 1970s and 1980s, right after the fall of Vietnam. The Vietnamese who arrived by boats in the country were welcomed with aid and shelter. Today, based on what I have read, the village now has a Vietville restaurant where tourists can try authentic Vietnamese dishes, numerous houses, a noodle factory, French bread bakeries, Catholic and Protestant churches and a Buddhist temple.

The community has turned into a tourist spot.

Life for the Viet community, however, is not always easy. Some have moved out of the community and chose to live in other parts of the country. There are also some who have migrated to other countries in search of a better life.

Should you happen to be in Palawan, look for the sign leading to Vietville and enjoy the Vietnamese culture for an hour or two.

Baby, Baby

Image via this Site

Yesterday afternoon was spent with Hunski and his college friends. We met at the Meralco Theater in Ortigas Complex to watch Baby the Musical. The musical garnered seven Tony Award nominations (including Best Musical, Book and Score) and a Grammy nomination.

Baby is the heartwarming story of three couples whose lives could change with the arrival of a child, or the inability to have a child.

Lizzie Fields is an ambitious college senior dating musician boyfriend Danny Hooper. When Danny finds out that Lizzie is with child, he tries to propose to Lizzie to marry him. But the latter refuses saying that with marriage, "talented men turn into husbands and brilliant women turn into wives." On the other hand, athletic couple Nick and Pam Sakarian is a young married couple who are greatly wanting to have a baby. A trip to the doctor however gives them sad news. Lastly, Alan and Arlene McNally are a twenty-year married couple caught in a situation whether they should or should not raise a kid in their golden years.

The musical is, among others, about marriage, about becoming a parent, about becoming a parent again, about relationship trials, and about how the birth of new life is one amazing phenomenon.

Starring in the Philippine production are Lea Salonga (Lizzie Fields), David Shannon (Danny Hooper), Jett Pangan (Nick Sakarian), Agot Isidro (Pam Sakarian), Miguel Faustmann (Alan McNally) and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo (Arlene McNally).

Baby the musical is directed by Bobby Garcia. Musical direction by Gerard Salonga. Music by David Shire. Lyrics by Richard Maltby,Jr. Book by Sybille Pearson.

Let These Girls Entertain Yah

Connie and Carla

David Duchovny

When I'm feeling down, a good movie can lift me up.

And if it's a musical type of movie, then it can even make my spirits soar and fly high again.

That's exactly what happened when Hunski took me to watch Connie and Carla yesterday. Hunski is such a nice hunski. Kisses.

Connie (NIA VARDALOS) and Carla (TONI COLLETTE) are two small-town girls working as dinner theater performs who dream of making it big. The singing and dancing duo find themselves on the road running for their lives after they see the murder of one of their few supporters.

The pair ends up in Los Angeles and to hide from their chasers, the pair take on a cover that makes them popular in the world of the LA gay, and eventually even the straight, community. They decide to pose as drag queen performers. As the duo becomes more popular, things become more complicated especially when Connie meets Jeff (David Duchovny) and later on finds herself falling for him.

The movie is filled with several very entertaining song and dance performances. Connie and Carla is a comedy that would inspire everyone to follow your dreams.

P.S. It was only last night that I realized how cute David Duchovny is. I mean I already liked him on Return to Me and seeing him again last night just confirmed his cuteness. Awww!

The Hours

I've been finding it difficult to sleep in the past few nights.

It is ironic that at an hour when everyone is fast asleep, when all is quiet and still, when there is a charade of peacefulness and tranquility, the thoughts in my mind is like a huge twister wreaking havoc on a serene plain.

I have been out of work for about three months now. The job I applied for with a non-government organization didn't happen. And although I am in search of another job, all I can see when I turn the pages of the jobs section of newspapers are ads for call centers, call centers and more call centers. I am terribly saddened by this. We have turned into a country of phone operators and of caregivers. While I am happy that the burgenoning of these call centers have provided opportunities to others, it saddens me at the same time because it has made it difficult for other people who are not for call center work to find a job, let alone a job that they like.

And as my birthday approaches, as we enter the "ber" months, I can't help but to sometimes slip and fall into despair. The thought of having an empty pocket on my birthday and on Christmas is frightening and depressing. Should this happen, this will be the first time that I would not think of celebrating these two significant occasions.

The feeling of despair deepens with the expenses that come my way. I cannot ask for help from the people who are supposed to give me support during these times of financial distress, because there is someone who needs more help. I am very very grateful though with my life to you who has been helping me get by for the past few weeks. You are the reason for so many reasons. However,I can still no rejoice because it is not a permanent solution and I know you understand that. But still, I am thankful.

When things like these happen, you can't help but ask "Why?". When you're rock bottom and nothing right seems to be happening, your faith begins to falter. You think that being Mr. Nice Guy all this time seems to be not worth it. Whoever said that nice guys finish first deserve to be tied down to a F1 racing car and be dragged to the finish line.

You can't help but look for an escape. But moving to another location, separating yourself from the people you love, or even the frightening ultimate self-destructive act, are not solutions. You have to keep your head clear. You have to keep on laughing. You have to keep on fighting. You have to believe that things will be right. You have to be optimistic.

Because pretty soon, after the darkest hours, the sun will rise again. This thought is something to hold on to.
